Personal Introduction

A native San Antonian, Alison Hicks grew up near Helotes. She undertook her undergraduate study at the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Philosophy and minoring in government. After receiving her degree, Ms. Hicks lived in Austin and worked as a legislative aide for Representative Bill Callegari of Katy, Texas. She was the front line for reviewing legislation proposed to the State House of Representatives and legislation Mr. Callegari was interested in proposing. She received first-hand experience in how laws were written, from conception to signing, helpful experience to be sure when she decided to pursue a legal career. Her last two years in Austin were spent working for an influential lobbying firm whose clients came from from areas as diverse as a municipal attorney Political Action Committee to daycare providers. Alison entered legal studies in 2003 in her hometown at St. Mary’s University. During her legal education, she participated in the competitive moot court program and argued cases before appellate courts in New York City, Chicago and Charleston, South Carolina. Upon graduation, Ms. Hicks argued and won before both the Texas Supreme Court and the Texas Appellate Court. Her background in appeals fine-tuned her trial skills and enables her to ensure that her appellate case issues remain intact and actionable. While attending St. Mary’s University, Ms. Hicks was elected by her classmates Student Bar Association President. She won the Patricia A. Scott award as the best oral advocate of her graduating class. She won the State Moot Court Competition, defeating over 15 other law schools and arguing a case before the Supreme Court of Texas. That honor had not been held by St. Mary’s University for over 5 years. Alison Hicks is an experienced trial attorney. She began her career in 2006 as a family law attorney and won high profile cases such as one where a father was awarded child custody, a rarity at that time. In 2009, she decided she could best serve clients by focusing on high conflict family law matters and became one of the founding partners in her own firm. As a result of her work in this area, she was named a “Rising Star” in the Scene in SA magazine.
