Personal Introduction
Anya was raised just outside of Detroit, Michigan but is proud to have called Las Vegas her home for almost 20 years. While in Michigan, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science from Michigan State University. She moved to Las Vegas in 2006 and shortly thereafter started her career with the Forensic Laboratory. She worked for over twelve years as a forensic firearms analyst, testifying over fifty times as an expert witness in state and federal courts. Anya’s experience includes testifying on the entire range of misdemeanor and felony cases involving firearms – unlawful possessions, concealed carry violations, robberies, batteries, assaults, kidnappings, and homicides including death penalty cases. It was Anya’s love of the courtroom and criminal law that inspired her to become an attorney. Anya attended the Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada Law Vegas where she received a full academic scholarship. While at Boyd, Anya worked as the Nevada Law Editor on the Nevada Law Journal. She authored the Journal’s 2021 White Paper, “Guns in the Sky: Nevada’s Firearms Laws, 1 October, and Next Steps.” In 2021, Anya graduated from UNLV with her Juris Doctor. Anya was ranked third in her class, earning eleven CALI awards for attaining the highest grade in a class. She was selected by her classmates to deliver the commencement speech at graduation, where she was awarded the James E. Rogers Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award in recognition of her overall scholastic achievements. Anya worked for several law firms after law school and in 2023, she founded Sanko Law to provide access to justice to the Las Vegas community that she calls home.
