A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law, he began his career by working as a law clerk for a trial judge and later as a Staff Attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. His career path also includes several years at a prominent international law firm, where he defended Fortune 500 companies in severe injury and fatality cases across the United States. Although Derek gained unparalleled experience during his time as a defense attorney, he eventually recognized that his true calling was to serve ordinary people who need a good lawyer.
