Personal Introduction

Ian is an experienced and professional trial attorney and Utah criminal defense lawyer. Trusted by clients and respected by judges and his peers, Ian has successfully represented countless individuals facing everything from minor misdemeanors and DUIs up to first-degree felony, life-without-parole, homicide and sex-related offenses. Throughout his time as a felony public defender and private defense attorney, Ian has handled more serious charges than many lawyers have in their entire career. Ian started his career at the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office, where he assisted other prosecutors on major cases and directly handled misdemeanor prosecutions. He also worked for several years as a felony public defender at the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association. He later was selected as first head of the Postconviction Section, at the Utah Indigent Appellate Defense Division—a state agency responsible for representing clients seeking postconviction relief. Ian has also litigated million-dollar lawsuits, involving catastrophic injuries and major business disputes when he practiced as a civil attorney at one of Salt Lake’s oldest and largest civil law firms. Beyond his extensive courtroom and jury trial experience, Ian works tirelessly to gain and keep his clients’ trust. Whether it's negotiating for the best possible deal from the prosecutor or fighting your case at trial, Ian's focus is obtaining the best resolution for your case, while striving to accomplish your goals and objectives.
