Personal Introduction
Attorney J. Clay McCaslin is the principal and owner of the Law Office of J. Clay McCaslin. He practices in the areas of personal injury, business litigation, insurance law, debtor-creditor disputes, and civil rights. Mr. McCaslin is licensed in three states and has over a decade and a half of legal experience representing individuals who have been injured through the negligence or wrongdoing of others, as well as businesses of all sizes in complex litigation matters. Mr. McCaslin is a proud member of the Oregon State Bar, the State Bar of Texas, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Multnomah Bar Association, the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association for Justice. Mr. McCaslin obtained his J.D. from Tulane University Law School (2001), where he graduated with honors, and a B.A. in English Literature from Birmingham-Southern College (1995), where he graduated magna cum laude with a minor in classical guitar. He spent two years teaching conversational English in Hungary and the Czech Republic before embarking on his legal career at Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. While at Tulane, Mr. McCaslin served as Articles Editor for the Tulane Law Review, in which he published an in-depth analysis of Zadvydas v. Davis, a controversial case concerning the indefinite detention of permanent resident aliens by the INS that ultimately reached the United States Supreme Court. After receiving his law degree from Tulane University, Mr. McCaslin was admitted to practice law in Texas (2001), Louisiana (2002), and later, Oregon (2004). He began his career as an associate for the law firm of Martzell & Bickford, APC, in New Orleans, where he represented landowners and local government entities in complex litigation involving claims for environmental contamination and underpayment of oil and gas royalties by major oil companies in the coastal wetlands of southern Louisiana. Mr. McCaslin later began practicing in the area of products liability for the Dallas, Texas-based law firm Waters & Kraus, LLP, where he represented families of children injured by dangerous and defective pharmaceutical products. After moving to Oregon in 2004, Mr. McCaslin subsequently opened his own practice in Portland, where he continues to live and work today.
