Personal Introduction

I love being a business owner, as I am sure you do as well. While I’ll be the first to admit that owning a small business is a lot more challenging than I would’ve expected, it’s likewise rewarding in ways I couldn’t have imagined. My story begins in Brooklyn. It’s where my roots in small business began. Running around my family’s clothing store as a child and then later working there alongside my father, I remember always being so proud of my father my owning his own store. Years later, owning and running a business myself, I can now truly appreciate all the energy my father spent on a daily basis. After undergraduate studies and earning a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, I decided to get my law degree and went on to work for firms in New York where I built a career in intellectual property and business law. It was a learning experience that helped me develop my understanding of small businesses and their specific legal needs and concerns. But after a few years, I was restless. I needed a new challenge. I decided to live and work abroad. So for a little over two years, I worked as a patent attorney at an intellectual property law firm in Ramat Gan, Israel. While I enjoyed the work, the lifestyle (and am grateful to have met my wife while living there) I knew working for another wasn’t my career path. Until this point, I had only worked for other people. Though I had gained a valuable foundation in law, I had very little client contact and no choice in who I helped and what work I was doing. I realized that was one of the things I most wanted. I was ready to be free to choose to work on the matters I truly enjoyed and with clients with whom I enjoyed working. It was clearly time to go into business for myself. As an employee, you always have your opinion on how the business should run, how you can serve the client better, and depending on where you work, you may have some say, but now as the business owner, I get to decide.
