Personal Introduction

Nelson S. Hsieh practices insurance coverage law, commercial litigation, and corporate law. In his insurance practice, Mr. Hsieh has counseled both insurers and policyholders on a wide range of policies and coverages, including cyber, tech, multimedia, errors and omissions (E&O), directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), commercial general liability (CGL), and various types of excess and umbrella policies. Mr. Hsieh has also defended and prosecuted numerous insurance coverage claims, including bad faith claims. Mr. Hsieh represents businesses in a wide range of commercial disputes, including litigation involving licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, technology transfer contracts and franchise agreements. In his business practice, Mr. Hsieh counsels businesses (particularly high-tech companies) on a variety of matters, including the formation and operation of companies, as well as the negotiation of contracts and agreements. In addition, Mr. Hsieh works in conjunction with other attorneys in the firm’s intellectual property practice group to service the needs of technology and e-commerce businesses. Mr. Hsieh is conversant in Chinese (Mandarin), and represents a number of Asian owned or operated businesses, including Taiwan-based multinational companies and their U.S. subsidiaries. After spending three years as an electrical engineering major, Mr. Hsieh earned his B.A. degree in philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his J.D. degree in 1994 from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (UCSF College of the Law, formerly known as Hastings College of the Law), where he was a notes editor of the International and Comparative Law Review and received American Jurisprudence Awards for Contracts and Evidence Advocacy. During law school, Mr. Hsieh was an extern for Chief Judge Thelton Henderson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Prior to starting private practice at Cooper, White & Cooper LLP, Mr. Hsieh served as a law clerk for Judge David Garcia and Judge William Cahill in the San Francisco County Superior Court.
