Personal Introduction

I help clients file for and obtain patents (I, however, don't do any work in trademarks or copyrights). I work mostly with small and medium sized companies and startups as well as independent inventors. The attorneys at our firm have a background and expertise in mechanical devices, software patents, medical devices, and electronics. I love helping clients think about patent strategy, and how they can optimize their patents to support and augment their business goals. I believe that patents can an expensive piece of paper unless they support business objectives and monetization opportunities. Here is my official bio: Samar has over 10 years of experience in patent law. He wrote his first patent application for Palm’s PalmPilot PDA while he was still a second year law student. Since then, Samar has written patents, and helped develop patent portfolio strategies for companies such as Facebook, Google, and many others. Samar Shah has also litigated patents for Blackberry, Acelity/KCI, and others in a variety of forums, including district courts and the Patent Trial Appeals Board. His litigation experience ranges from preparing cases for trial by formulating positions on infringement and claim construction, conducting discovery, drafting motions, preparing witnesses for depositions, taking and defending depositions, and writing briefs for appeals at the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Samar Shah has also handled post grant proceedings and patent prosecution, focusing primarily on inter partes reviews (IPRs), reexaminations, and other advanced prosecution strategies to assist clients manage active litigations. Prior to founding Outlier Patent Attorneys, PLLC, Samar worked at some of the biggest and most prestigious law firms in the country as a patent prosecutor and as a patent litigator.
