Drug distribution – When cases involving drugs include large amounts of illegal drugs found along with other items, such as packaging materials and scales, then drug distribution charges come into the picture. Such serious drug charges can quickly rise to the federal level. Possession – With drug possession charges, establishing whether the officers had a warrant to search the accused or the accused’s property can be critical for building a defense. Felony Offenses Arson – Illegally setting someone’s property ablaze can be charged as arson. The property type and extent of damage can influence the severity of charges. Felony assault – Assault charges may be filed under class 4 or class 3 felonies, depending on whether the assault led to a disfiguring, permanent, or life-threatening injury. Aggravated robbery – using a dangerous weapon to take valuables from a person can lead to this charge. Aggravated robbery is a class 3 felony whose punishment can be a prison term of up to 12 years. Identity theft – Stealing and using someone’s financial or personal information may be filed under class 4 felonies and attract serious charges. Weapons charges – Weapons and gun charges may be associated with severe penalties, especially if such offenses are connected to serious crimes, such as murder or violence. In the most serious scenarios, such charges can get to the federal level. Theft – Stealing property worth $1,000 or more may trigger felony theft charges. The total may result from several instances of theft or from receiving stolen items or failing to return hired property.
