Personal Introduction

I’m an absolute nerd about intellectual property law. I love how it provides creative solutions to help businesses protect incredibly important assets that often go unprotected at great peril. I also love speaking to groups of business owners, especially women, about how to use intellectual property law to elevate their businesses. I work with clients who are seeking anything from a simple one-time solution to a long-term intellectual property strategy for management and protection. I'm also working on some projects to increase access to intellectual property law to those who are unable to afford an attorney and want some guidance before attempting a DIY solution. My science background is computer science and physics. I am transparent about my fees and use flat fees almost exclusively. I want clients to know exactly what they're getting into regarding cost. Why Work With Me? * You get results and custom solutions tailored for you. * You get cost-effective and efficient strategies and services designed for your unique needs. * You get to take worrying about your intellectual property and business law issues off your list of things that keep you up at night. * You get transparency about fees, and because I use flat fees, you will know up front what the total cost will be. No surprises or guessing. * You get careful solutions that are sound investments compared to having to deal with time-consuming and far more costly problems that could have been avoided. * You get honesty. I will tell you if I think you may have problems with registering a patent, trademark, etc. and will discuss the information you need to make decisions that are right for you. * You get my nearly 25 years of experience as an attorney, and you get me, not passed to a junior attorney. * You get a fellow entrepreneur who understands what being a small business owner is like. * You get respect, regardless of business size or stage. * You get the information you need to always feel you know where we are in a process, what’s going on, and what comes next. * You get a lawyer who believes your needs, goals, and story are important.

Personal Interests & Charitable Work

I am a board member of the Champaign County Bar Association, E-Brilliance Alliance / Women's Entrepreneurial Network of Champaign County, and the University of Illinois Laboratory High School Alumni Association, as well as an active member in the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Georgia State Bar, East Central Illinois Women Attorneys Association, Entreprenista League, and the Leadership Council, Economic Development Council, and Technology Council of the National Small Business Association. Outside of work and organizations, I'm a huge rock and roll fan and get out to concerts as much as I can. I play terrible guitar and bass and do shameless karaoke. I believe strongly in animal rescue and supporting no-kill shelters. I have a Senior Purrtner who is in charge of morale at the office.
