Personal Introduction

Stephen R. Wiliams is an experienced trial lawyer that has dedicated his legal expertise to serving his community. Stephen attended Howard University School of Law, where it was instilled in him that attorneys are the gatekeepers of their community. Stephen considers it an honor to fight for the rights of individuals on issues that will ultimately impact the greater society. After law school, Stephen returned to the Kansas City area, where he worked as a trial attorney with the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office. In this role, he zealously defended clients charged with various criminal matters, learned the importance of listening before speaking, and realized that people are more than their current circumstances. Unfortunately, most individuals that Stephen represented in the criminal justice system were young black males. This motivated Stephen’s decision to join the Kansas City Public School System as an attorney. While with the KCPS, Stephen served as a staff attorney, lead litigator, and general counsel. From his time with KCPS Stephen is most proud of the successful trial results that he was able to achieve on behalf of KCPS as well as Co-creating “Justice in the Schools' - a school-based legal clinic that offers free legal services to students and parents. Prior to starting his own firm, Stephen served as of-counsel with a midsized firm in Kansas City.
