Personal Interests & Charitable Work
Following Super Typhoon Bavi's direct hit on Rota in 2026, Azarvand Tax Law was among the first to respond on the island, delivering aid and support to residents in the storm's immediate aftermath, bringing along non-profit coordinators and other relief providers to get boots on the ground as soon as possible, even arriving to Rota before the U.S. Navy and FEMA. In 2025, Azarvand Tax Law launched the Economic Recovery Scholarship, a program created in response to the closure of over one hundred CNMI businesses the prior year. The scholarship invited middle school, high school, and college-aged students across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to submit original proposals for diversifying the CNMI economy beyond tourism and federal funding, awarding six scholarships across the three academic levels. Every submission, not just the winning proposals, was shared with relevant CNMI government offices, ensuring student ideas could inform actual economic recovery planning. In 2024, Tina and her firm partnered with the CNMI Division of Revenue and Taxation and the University of Baltimore School of Law Taxpayer Clinic to bring free tax resolution services to the islands, operating under special orders from DRT. Over the course of the clinic, the collaboration provided direct assistance to approximately ninety CNMI taxpayers working to resolve outstanding tax debts. Tina was also named the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service's Young Volunteer of the Year in 2022 for her pro bono work in Maryland, and she remains an active MVLS volunteer attorney. Outside of work, Tina is an avid traveler who has visited several dozen countries and continues to explore new places whenever she can. Closer to home, she spends much of her free time outdoors, whether kayaking, hiking, or otherwise enjoying nature.
